The company CO2 Werkstatt utilizes the greenhouse gas CO2 together with alcohols such as (bio-)ethanol or methanol and renewable energies for the production of organic carbonates.
With the patented process for the preparation of organic carbonates for CO2 utilization, fossil and toxic ressources are avoided and a local procution is enabled.
The starting alcohols thereby achieve an added value of up to 300% with an prediced market volume for the both organic carbonates diethylcarbonate and dimethylcarbonate of yearly USD 2.7 bn in the year 2030.
In cooperation with TU Vienna the process is developed since 2017 and demonstrated within a prototype.

DI Florian Kabas, MSc He has more than ten years of experience in building corporate structures, innovation projects, and translating research into economically viable applications. After graduating from BOKU and the Technical University of Munich, he spent four years leading an international project on biomethane production in Brazil. Since 2017, he has been working at kleinkraft on CO₂ utilization, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. As managing partner, he has gained extensive experience in corporate management, process development, environmental and sustainability management, and techno-economic assessments.
DI Magdalena Teufner-Kabas, MSc. After graduating from BOKU and the Technical University of Munich, she has been working on CO₂ utilization processes since 2013, first at AIT and later at kleinkraft as a managing partner. She led the research projects and developed a process for producing organic carbonates, which has been submitted for patenting. She is a process expert and a 2023 ÖGUT award winner. In her consulting work, she has supported more than 50 companies in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects as well as permitting procedures.
DI Gerhard Greilinger MSc He completed his master’s degree in process engineering at TU Wien as part of the research projects. For the past five years, he has been supporting companies at kleinkraft with energy and material flow analyses. For 3.5 years, he has been working intensively on CO₂ utilization processes, developing analytical methods for organic carbonates, setting up the membrane test bench, and being responsible for operating the demonstrator prototype.
